Help needed for new hide after funds raised

5th September 2014

We are delighted with the response from Society Members to our fundraising appeal for a new hide and boardwalk at Gosforth Park Nature Reserve. Members have raised £9,875. We can’t thank enough everyone who has contributed. We are also extremely grateful to the Roland Cookson Fund, Local Environmental Action Fund and Northern Powergrid Fund via Community Foundation North East (£12,112), the Ridley Family Fund (£3,000) and the Parklands Ward Councillors at Newcastle City Council (£1,000).

With the final contribution coming from Society endowments we are ready to start the hard bit – building it ourselves! We need as much help as we can with this work – the more help the quicker it will be open! We would especially welcome people who have skills with wood or DIY.

Volunteer work parties are now taking place every Wednesday and also on the Saturdays of 27 September and 25 October. All from 10am-1pm, meet at the reserve entrance.

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear (we recommend wellies) and bring any drink or snacks to keep you going. We will go ahead in rain.  Everyone is welcome, including friends and family, as long as you are able to carry out some physical work.
