Friday 11 October, 7.00pm-8.00pm, Newcastle University – Ridley Building 2, room RIDB2.1.65
with Michael Stinson, Ulster Wildlife
Michael Stinson works as a self-employed ecologist and as a Red Squirrel Officer for Ulster Wildlife in Co Fermanagh N Ireland, which is a stronghold for Red Squirrels and Pine Marten. The natural recovery of Pine Marten in the area has been accompanied by a collapse in Grey Squirrel numbers with Red Squirrel range expanding back into areas they had been absent from for decades. Michael will provide an overview of the contemporary situation with Pine Marten recovery in Ireland and discuss aspects of his work that seek to address the challenges that can arise with interaction between this native mammal and local people.
