Michael is also one of the Directors of the Tyne and Wear Heritage Forum and Chairman of the Friends of Saltwell Park both heavily committed to community involvement and environmental awareness. He also leads guided bird walks for various organisations including The Land of Oak and Iron, RSPB and a variety of local community and school groups.

“I have always been fascinated by the history of our Society. The commitment, dedication and knowledge of past members is reflected in the rich collections held in our incredible library and archives. This resource has always been an inspiration for members over the years and I believe is instrumental in developing our modern-day naturalists in the North East. I’m convinced the commitment, dedication and knowledge of our current members will also play a key role in natural history education and research especially as we deliver our ‘Towards 2029’ strategy.”
