David Green

(1950-2004) Darlington born naturalist, wildlife artist and herpetologist.

David Green was born in Darlington, County Durham. He worked as an animal keeper at Whipsnape Zoo, London then returned to the North East where he was employed as a free lance wildlife illustrator for local natural history organisations including the Natural History Society of Northumbria and the Hancock Museum.

He produced the illustrations for David Bellamy’s Backyard Safari which was published in the 1980s.

Sadly, David died under tragic circumstances in India while sketching wildlife by the River Betwa, in Orchha. His family presented his archive, including several illustrated diaries, to the Natural History Society in 2010.
