With Angus Lunn
About one-third of Northumberland is moorland, and another large upland tract is occupied by forest. Angus Lunn has mapped the moorland vegetation in detail, and will try to explain the distribution of the various plant communities in terms of geology, climate and – not least – land-use history. The latter includes the influence of the Scottish Border, and of Pennine lead-mining. And, in the Forestry Commission’s centenary year, the role that the organisation has played in our upland story.
