Sponsor a Farne Islands Arctic Tern
You can sponsor your own bird for £120 which will pay for the purchase of a geolocator which we will fit to the leg of an Arctic Tern nesting on the Farne Islands. We will let you know which tern you have sponsored. Your tern will leave the Farnes in the summer and make an incredible migration to the Antarctic, eventually (and hopefully) returning to the Farne Islands the following spring to nest again. We will then recapture your bird and remove the geolocator which will tell us about its amazing migration. We will then share this data with you. This is ground-breaking research and was featured in the national press and Springwatch in 2016 when the first group of birds returned with their geolocators. You can sponsor your tern by donating £120 using the online form below or send a cheque for that amount payable to “Natural History Society of Northumbria”.
