Like any charity, in order to make a difference in the world we rely on kind donations. One way to support our work is to leave a legacy donation in your Will or to make a donation in memory of someone you love.
Members and friends of the Society have been donating money, books and collections for almost 200 years – and these are at the heart of the Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle, which is accessible to the public free of charge. We are always seeking new ways to help protect our native wildlife and to stimulate interest in the natural world: your legacy will help us to do this.
Leaving a legacy is usually a lot simpler than people think. There are a number of ways you can leave a legacy to us:
Any legacy you leave us will be free from inheritance tax and you could reduce the amount of inheritance tax due on your estate by leaving us a legacy.
“It was really easy to set up a legacy donation with the Natural History Society of Northumbria. I’ve been a Society member for many years and I think it’s really important that the Society’s invaluable work continues for future generations” – Ann Wilson
If you are thinking of leaving a legacy we would advise you to speak to your solicitor. You can find a solicitor at www.lawsociety.org.uk. If you do decide to give a legacy please include our charity number (526770).
In your legacy you can make a general donation to our work or you can specify what you would like your money to go towards. Your gift can help the society in many ways, including:
